At the Seattle Heel Pain Center at the Foot and Ankle Center of Washington, Dr. Huppin and Dr. Hale are specialists in heel and arch pain treatment. Both Seattle podiatrists are experts in orthotic therapy and correcting biomechanical problems in the foot. Over the years we have found that heel pain is highly preventable, yet it is the most common complaint we hear from patients. This has led us to develop specific treatment plans and our heel pain program at the Seattle Heel Pain Center.
This condition, which is also known as plantar fasciitis, can become difficult and chronic if not treated early. However, it can almost always be resolved even in the most difficult and long-lasting cases without surgery. More than 95% of our patients report that their condition has been successfully treated within a few weeks.
Our best practices for heel pain treatment include:
- Decrease the tightness on the plantar fasciitis. When the foot flattens too much, the plantar fascia tightens, leading to inflammation and discomfort. If this problem is not resolved, treatment is likely to fail.
- Reduce the inflammation and pain fast. Initial pain relief can be achieved through a combination of evidence-based heel pain treatments.
- Orthotic therapy for long-term pain relief. Several studies show that custom foot orthotics specifically designed to treat plantar fasciitis, including total contact orthotics, is the most effective way to prevent pain. We see many patients at our office who have orthotics that do not provide enough arch support. We are experts at troubleshooting all orthotics and prescribing, casting, and fitting new ones.
- Prevent the problem from returning. There are standard and non-invasive options to keep heel pain away and prevent surgery. These work for most patients, including those who have had past treatment failures. Learn more about these approaches here.
