Children need regular foot check ups as they grow up. Many foot problems are present at a young age and when caught early later problems can be prevented. At our Seattle podiatry clinic, we specialize in the needs of children’s feet—including heel pain, injuries, shoe problems, bunions, children’s arthritis, and more.
A comprehensive children’s foot check-up should begin as soon as your child starts to walk. We also recommend evaluations at age 3 when the foot is more developed, and again at age 6 when starting grade school. A foot evaluation is also important before engaging in any kind of sports.
If you live in the Seattle area or the Puget Sound region, make an appointment for your child at The Foot and Ankle Center of Washington.
The children’s foot care provided includes:
1. Help for pain in the feet, knees or ankles. If your child complains of pain in these areas, or you notice your child regularly tripping and falling, there could be lower body alignment issues.
2. Shoe and healthy walking evaluation. If the wear and tear in child’s shoes is uneven, your child may have an unusual gait or foot position. If anything is unusual, or your child insists of being carried more than normal, an exam may be necessary.
3. A comprehensive foot evaluation. Walking patterns, wearing the right shoes, normal muscle function, and determining if inherited foot problems are present are some of the areas that should be checked.
