Heel and arch pain is one of the most common complaints we hear from patients. This has led us to develop a heel pain protocol at the Seattle Heel Pain Center. We also offer reviews of products designed to help with heel pain.
Night splints can be helpful in treating plantar facilities (heel pain), Achilles tendonitis, and morning heel pain. In combination with other heel pain therapies, most patients using night splints find significant relief. One study showed that 80% of patients saw significant improvements in the first month.
We have reviewed a number of night splints for heel pain treatment. The Dorsal Night Splint and the Plantar Night Splint are our top choices. These fit on different areas of the foot (the top or bottom) and the fit depends on personal preference. There is also Night Splint Sock that can be used as an alternative.
Tips for Using Night Splints
- Wear it at night to bed. Also, if you’ll be sitting for more than 30 minutes during the day, a night splint can be effective.
- If you have heel pain in both feet, we suggest initially purchasing just one night split. Most people find that wearing two splits is uncomfortable.
- When starting treatment, plan on using the night splint consistently for the first 3-4 weeks.
For the most rapid relief of pain, make an appointment with a podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. If you live in the Puget Sound area, visit our Seattle Heel Pain Center. Appointments for heel pain treatment can be made here.
